Poggio al Tesoro’s top Vermentino comes from the Sandraia vineyard, close to the Camilla River in coastal Bolgheri. The grapes are taken from a specific west-facing part of the vineyard on deep, sandy soils with gravel and clay. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and the wine remains in tank on its lees for nine months before bottling. Just 4,000 cases were produced in 2015, which is regarded as an exceptional vintage in Bolgheri. This is certainly a step up from the entry level Solosole, and provides a richer style with more aroma, minerality, structure and intensity. On the palate it provides well judged white stone fruits and ripe peach alongside a savoury, almond-like lees character. There's excellent balance and harmony here throughout, and the finish is impressively long.
