A delicious mix of black cherry, olive and roasted herb aromas and flavours, charming and sweet on the palate and drinking beautifully now next to a plate of porchetta. Thirty-five year old Giulitta Zamperini is the president of the Val d'Orcia consorzio and fifth-generation of this farming family to manage the estate's vines, olive groves and woods situated around the town of Il Castello di Ripa d'Orcia. Alongside her bright-eyed father, she makes an ecletic range of wines: varietal Syrah, macerated Marsanne and Rousanne each as excellent as the next. The Sangiovese 'Sesterzo' could be confused for a Brunello from the southeastern reaches of Montalcino in a blind tasting – but there is no merit in comparison.
