Tenuta Belguardo is the Maremma estate of the Mazzei family. Founded in the early 1990s, the original focus was on Super Tuscan styles but has progressively veered towards native mono-varieties like this juicy, concentrated, Ciliegiolo. On the nose there is an appealing mix of ripe fruit and spices, with hints of earthiness in the background, while on the palate there are slightly gritty tannins and a punchy finish with a return of peppery fruit.
