The inaugural release of Campolupi comes from a newly leased property that neighbours Tenuta di Arceno’s extensive holdings. It reaches 550 metres above sea level on predominantly sandstone soil. A smattering of 15-year-old Colorino vines are harvest alongside Sangiovese and the two are co-fermented. Attractive whiffs of cocoa, vanilla and wood spice drape decorously over blackberry and black cherry. The fruit is sweeter and plusher than the Strada al Sasso bottling, melding seamlessly into pliant, yielding tannins, with some savoury black tea to finish. Polished without sacrificing personality, this evokes Tuscan’s sunlit hills.
