Owned by the Caponi family since the 16th century, Villa Calcinaia spreads over 200ha, with 27ha planted to vines. Each of its three Gran Selezione bottlings comes from a distinct vineyard, and the only west-facing vineyard, Vigna Contessa Luisa, also boasts the oldest vines at 60 years old. 

Aromas of mint, polished wood and balsamic herbs introduce this young wine. On the palate macerated cherry, leather and dried lavender are held together with vigorous chalky tannins. It's well put together and will radiate more of its charms over the next 15 years.
