Unique to Umbria’s Montefalco region, Trebbiano Spoletino is a world away from the much more neutral Trebbiano Toscana with which it shares only a name. Filippo Antonelli has been a committed supporter of the variety from the start, and his Vigna Tonda is a striking example of what Trebbiano Spoletino can do. Made with fruit from tree-trained vines, it ferments on the skins with wild yeast and no temperature control, then ages in amphora for six months. The result is a wine with green banana and apricot scents and a stunningly tactile palate that boasts huge length, with dried mango and daffodil on the finish. A revelation.
