People have been making wine in Orvieto since Etruscan times, and it was celebrated in the Middle Ages, even gracing the tables of the Renaissance Popes. After a wobble in the post-war period, it is finding its character and identity once again. This is a blend of organically grown Grechetto and local Trebbiano Procanico made by Niccolò Barberani; an inspiring example of the DOC at a remarkable price. Stainless steel fermented and bone dry, this is nonetheless subtly rich with notes of roasted fennel, golden fruits and fresh honey. A great reminder of what makes Orvieto special.
