Lunga Attesa means ‘long wait’, hinting at the choice to wait seven years before releasing this wine. Skin contact is relatively short, lasting roughly a week, and the ageing occurs in a mix of stainless steel, cone-shaped wood vats and terracotta amphorae. Sporting an inky colour, the nose mixes hearty aromas of blackberry compote, new leather and chocolatey oak with fresher touches of rhubarb, menthol and iron. Muscular yet seamlessly integrated tannins melt into a brooding structure rounded out by a subtle veil of toasted oak, giving it a relatively approachable texture. Refreshing acidity lifts a long and creamy finish – a bit Amarone-esque yet without the slightest hint of excess heat. It works smoothly as a fireside red from the start, but also has good cellaring potential.
