La Roggia is a single, hillside vineyard in San Pietro in Cariano. The grapes undergo 110 days of drying before fermentation in stainless steel. The wine is then racked into 500-litre casks in the cool cellars, which naturally halts fermentation. Ageing subsequently takes place in barriques for 24 months. A rich, meaty nose awaits, with bold blackcurrant and a ferrous hint. It's not overly concentrated and so remains nicely drinkable, with black cherry and black currants, damp earth, and a menthol, herbal element in the background. To its credit it tastes much drier than the 114g/l of residual sugar would suggest.
