Youthful appearance with purple and ruby hues at the rim. Aromas suggest a wine only just beginning its primary development, with scents of plums and blackberries, some blackcurrant then an abundance of barrel spices – mainly vanilla and clove. Violets, some cigar tobacco, iron and clay layers begin to emerge as the wine opens up in the glass. Complex, youthful, energetic and engaging. A weighty wine on the palate with a firm mouthfeel from fruit and barrel tannins accentuated by acidity. Flavours reflect the bouquet, along with some dried herb and barrel smoke then clay soil notes follow with sweet violet on the finish. Dry, lengthy and delicious. Blend also contains 3% Petit Verdot.
