An initial whiff of kerosene is followed by intense creaminess, quince jelly and candied orange peel. Later on, there is a real sense of dried, botrytised fruit. The palate follows these same notions: there is a raisined edge from botrytis but a real glycerol-rich mouthfeel, making the texture almost oily. The acidity comes across as mild: it is the pleasantly bitter phenolic edge that counters the richness and lends contour and structure. A lovely hint of saffron pervades the mouthwatering palate.
