Akin to Beaumes de Venise in style, this is a deliciously fresh and heady wine, with manuka honey, apricot jam, almond skin, orange blossom and anise aromas. Very pure-fruited and sweet, with balanced alcohol (15%) and a nicely rounded unctuousness rather than any spiritiness. The finish is clean and fresh, with ripe stone fruit and jasmine. Just the second time in production, from a rare variety for New Zealand.
