Hailing from a close-planted vineyard (in New Zealand terms, that is) at 6,000 vines per hectare, this has an intriguing nose of orange peel and rhubarb mixed with red cherries. Finely scented, elegant and incredibly smooth, this is a pure expression with minimal intervention in the winery. It displays a high level of concentration yet remains delicate, with oak playing an unobtrusive supporting role. Vivacious acidity on the finish provides the brightness and line that I so like in wines from the Gibbston area. Good to see Glenlee back to its best after the 2015 crop was destroyed by frost.
