A subtle, graceful wine, miles away from the classical Central Otago exuberance and perfume, this is a gearshift in style. There’s fragrance of course, but this is all about earth, peppery spice and vinosity. Slinky fruit on the palate – some cranberry, berry fruit and dark cocoa, all wrapped up in a savoury umaminess – firm silty tannins, minerally length. It’s quite contained and calm, with good energy and flow. Rippon describes this as 'the voice of the farm', as it is drawn from all the mature vines on the land, with an average age of 30 years. Biodynamic.
