The Last Chance is a watercourse that runs through this schistous vineyard in arid Alexandra, and in 2013 a cool spring created particularly small, concentrated berries. At five years old its rim is starting to fade to garnet, but the rich palate is alive with flavour: black cherry and chocolate combine with lifted spice and tea leaf notes derived from one-third whole-bunch fermentation. It's also starting to develop some earthy tones. This is at an eminently drinkable stage of its career, but will continue to mature over the next 5-8 years.
