New Zealand

1991 was a stand-out vintage in every New Zealand wine region. A hot December with early flowering and long, settled weather was followed by quite heavy rain on 9-10 April, then by perfect conditions until harvest. This is  big and powerful wine with a firm structure of ripe yet angular tannins that appear to have extended its life. It's a robust and slightly rustic red without floral notes but with strong berry and dried fruit flavours.
