Coleraine is Te Mata's flagship Bordeaux blend, first made in 1982. The 2007 season was warm, dry and settled, and was touted as an excellent vintage from the outset. This took almost 24 hours to open up fully, revealing a perfectly proportioned, elegant and layered wine. The bouquet is reminiscent of walking into a vintage sweet shop, offering parma violet and black liquorice scents, as well as more grown-up savoury characters of tobacco and pencil lead. It's at a beautiful stage of its maturity, remaining fresh and vivid, and it will continue to develop gracefully for at least another decade. Tasted from magnum.
