This is the third vintage of this wine after the 2010 and 2013. Winemaker Jamie Marfell says there won’t be any 2016, 2017 or 2018, but ‘the 2019 is looking good’. Fruit is handpicked from specific rows in the M and C blocks, where vines are between nine and 18 years old. After gentle pressing, the unracked juice is wild-yeast fermented and aged mainly in old oak cuves (with 9% in puncheons) for 12 months, then blended and further aged in bottle for six months before release.&nbsp;</p>
<p>‘We don’t think of it as an oaked wine; the oak is just there to give more richness and texture,’ says Marfell. It has an inviting nose of guava and pink grapefruit, followed by delicious saline, oyster shell-like minerality on the linear but weighty palate, along with more stone fruit flavours and fresh citrus acidity. It's gentle and elegant, not like the typical full-frontal passionfruit and gooseberry Sauvignons from Marlborough. It's very long and complex, with great structure for ageing. Just 400 cases made.
