They managed to beat the rains in 2010, helped by thin-cropping the vines to allow the remaining fruit to ripen earlier. At eight years' old, this has a lovely nose of asparagus, rich caramel, nougat and passionfruit. Flavours of citrus, dried herb and black pepper are followed by a slightly dry, astringent finish that probably comes from the use of some large ex-Pelorus oak barrels, the first vintage they began fermenting a small portion of wine in oak. It's quite a spicy style, less tropical than the 2018, a savoury expression with mouthwatering, steely acidity.
