Showcases Bairrada’s trademark firm acidity and chalky (smoky) minerality yet, from a hot, dry year, is surprisingly robust. Muscular, positively ripped, the liquorice-edged fruit is tightly clasped, with little sign of development since I last tasted it in 2017. Doubtless, the yields from this centenarian vineyard were miserly. With time in glass, it reveals fleeting glimpses of this 1.7ha monopole’s surrounding pine forest and eucalyptus.   Formidable, with decades on its side.
