Made only in exceptional years, the Maria Teresa vineyard is composed of low-yielding centenarian vines situated close to the Douro River. The dominant grape is Tinta Amarela, co-planted with Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Rufete, which are among a total of 54 different grapes. The genetically mapped vineyard ensures the precise replanting of specific varieties to perpetuate and conserve the terroir and the field blend of such a unique plot. The reservedly powerful wine showcases deep ruby hues to reveal an impressive nose of dark fruit compote, baking chocolate, cinnamon, and black tea. The palate is complex, balanced, and fresh, prancing on dried mint, cocoa, tobacco, dried black cherries, the whiff of campfire, and aged miso. Fine-grained tannins and juice-inducing acidity leave a lasting and impressionable finish to this grand ensemble.
