One of the Douro’s grandest estates, Vesuvio was founded by the renowned 19th-century businesswoman Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Grapes for this flagship red come from the Quinta Nova vineyard at 450m. The growing season started with an unusually warm, wet winter and cool, wet spring. A dry August and September gave grapes of good balance and high quality. Dirceu Vianna Junior: Delicately scented with restrained blackberry, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and spices. Concentration, harmonious structure and a delicious finish. Christine Allen: Morello cherry, wood spice, a touch of fresh vanilla. Silky with velvety tannins and a polished finish.
