Dark amber, with arresting guava and lifted spicy chutney and tobacco/café crème cigar on the nose. Salt-edged palate, effortlessly balancing the residual sugar (116.5g/l). Cleansing (and volatile) acidity powers the long, charismatic retro-nasal ozone and black cardamom spice-laced finish. Produced from a field blend featuring around 35% of the red Trincadeira. Matured in 700l oak casks on ullage, it was blended with a splash of drier wine from the 1996 vintage.
