Primorska is close to the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the influence of its neighbour is evident in the winemaking at Burja, especially with the use of skin contact. On rich flysch marlstone and sandstone, grapes for this white blend come from the two oldest vineyards: Ravno Brdo (at least 20 years old) and Stranice (more than 60 years old). It’s aged for one year in large barrels. Caroline Gilby MW: Mid-yellow amber, tangy orange peel and herby nose, plenty of tangerine and herby notes, some grip balanced by fruit, baked apple. Lots going on. Isa Bal MS: Skin contact, well made, clean with a variety of flavours ranging from vegetal to floral and fruits. Satisfying. Darrel Joseph: Fabulous aromas range from Mediterranean herbs and tobacco to everything from apple, peach, tangerine, orange peel, orange blossom and bay leaf. A palate of sophisticated structure, showing fabulous depth from start to lengthy finish. A wine like no other.
