Chenin Blanc vines of 34 years average age are planted on rocky terraces in the river plain of Slanghoek Valley. The fruit is handpicked and fermentation starts in stainless steel before the must is moved after five days to second- and third-fill French oak barrels to complete, and here the wine was aged on its lees for 20 months with regular batonnage. Greg Sherwood MW: Exotic nose of peaches, sun lotion and cream soda. The palate surprises with its elegance and restraint while never shying from its confectionery and green melon notes. Spicy, toasty quince preserve on the finish. Beverley Blanning MW: Thyme honey on buttered toast nose. Full palate with creamy texture and integrated oak. This is a curling-in-front-ofthe-fire wine, rich and enveloping but with a fresh, juicy, lingering finish. Roger Jones: Textural, layered, super-ripe white peaches and nectarines. Precision. Gentle brioche crumbs, essence of lime peel.
