Astounding purity from this Chenin Blanc and Palomino field blend. Notes of flint, fresh hay, white peach, fynbos and crushed lime draw you into the clean, focused palate. Razor-like saline acidity sculpts around white citrus, melon, green apple and lime, tailoring into a nervy grip on the finish. Maturation took place in old acacia and oak foudres for 12 months. Skerpioen is the most readily accessible from the Old Vine Series, though it will age for more than a decade. The old, co-planted bushvines date back to between 1958 and 1967. Unirrigated, the roots cling to chalky, limestone soils in what is ostensibly deemed as Wine of Origin Swartland, though physically is St Helena on the West Coast.
