Marc Kent jokes that he created this wine because he got tired of pouring chilled Porcupine Ridge Merlot to finish off tastings. In reality, it’s a testament to the winery’s love of Semillon in all its guises. Botrytis adds an orange marmalade richness to the flavours of quince, dried apricot, spiced poached pear and candied peel. Unctuous and rich, this is 100% Semillon from a vineyard in front of the winery, planted in 1997. Two picks take place between April and mid-May, predicated on when botrytis attacks. Just three barrels’ worth are made, and it ages for 36 months in 100% new barriques.
