Sam O’Keefe describes this wine as her ‘pride and joy’ – and with justification; it must be one of the Cape’s finest Syrahs. About 15% of the fruit is fermented as whole-bunch (skins and stems) and the wine spends time in large-format oak – 500- to 700-litre barrels, a third of which is new. All this adds subtle savoury support to the focused summer pudding, violet and white pepper flavours. There’s a bright-eyed elegance here and that trademark Lismore savoury finish. Delicious now and for the next decade or more.
