Named after a rare mountain rose, the 10ha Thamnus vineyard in Overberg benefits from the cooling maritime influence of nearby Walker Bay. With 30% whole bunch, this elegant Pinot spends 10 months in oak (32% new French). Smoky raspbery and cherry aromas lead to a fresh palate with lovely purity of fruit. Crushed raspberry and ripe blackberry are layered with hints of spice and cured meat, backed by chalky tannins. Alluring depth of flavour now; it will be interesting to see how this evolves in bottle.
