Kanonkop's Paul Sauer needs little introduction to lovers of South African wine. This, plus its success at past CWG auctions, is the reason for its lofty pre-sale estimate, almost double the next highest wine. Arguably justified, as this release is another stellar example: very youthful, with the alcohol and oak (24 months in 100% new French oak barrels) already beautifully integrated into the intense bramble and blackcurrant fruit. Grippy tannins and brisk acidity carry through the long, earthy finish. CWG estimate: ZAR9,800-12,300 per six-bottle case
