A Cabernet Sauvignon heavyweight at 92% of the blend, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc in support, the fruit for Sam comes from Polkadraai and Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch. Aged in 51% new oak barriques for 22 months, the 2020 was bottled with no fining or filtering. This cuvée is named after Miles’ wife and has become a celebrated part of Mossop’s core range since its 2017 debut. Although Mossop stays out of the spotlight, this is one of the Cape’s finest Cabernet blends and goes toe-to-toe with top Médoc. Jason Millar: Fine-boned and quietly concentrated, gravelly black fruit with deft tannins. Subtle oaking, an attractive lift on the finish. A grown-up and unshowy style. Roger Jones: Cocoa and spiced mocha, peppery mulberry and pomegranate molasses. Deep intensity, a lovely chewy feel, fresh balance. Beautiful. Victoria Mason MW: A combination of power and elegance. Richly concentrated, with a touch of developing leather. A class act. This is drinking beautifully now, but has plenty of time ahead of it.
