KWV’s wine heritage stretches back to 1918, and today it sources grapes from some 72 growers all over the Western Cape. The Mentors range sits as one of the company’s icon brands. This Chenin Blanc cuvée was all fermented in barrel but in two parts, 87% using indigenous yeasts and the remainder a specially selected strain to optimise the fruit flavours. The wine was given nine months’ lees contact before a further nine months of maturation in new, second- and third-fill 500L barrels. Greg Sherwood MW: Quite a slatey nose that shines on the palate. Plush, pure and precise, there is real depth and generosity of fruit. This is a lovely expression of the Swartland. Beverley Blanning MW: Light petrolly, mineral aromas. Savoury palate, with smoky notes and tingling acidity. Mineral and firm, full in the mouth. Plenty of substance and fruit intensity. Roger Jones: Grilled apricots with caramelised custard. Ripe flavours balanced by savoury herbs, granite, spice and depth.
