Until the string of drought years that have beset South Africa, this blend used to be about 90% Syrah but in 2018 this dropped to 70% early-picked Syrah, joined by 12% Grenache and (for the acidity) 10% Carignan and 8% Cinsault. It's broody and dense, even with an extra year under its belt, with slightly drying tannins, an earthy yet supple mouthfeel and flavours of spiced red berries, deeper inky brambles and warm gravel. Give it time to unwind.
