Survivor wines are made from grapes sourced all over South Africa, however the Chenin Reserve focuses solely on Weldie, a farm in Swartland that’s based on red soils with gravel and enjoys the moderating influence of the Benguela Current coastal breezes. Most of the wine was fermented naturally in first-fill 400L French oak casks, with the remaining 20% in second- and third-fill, and barrel-maturation lasting 10 months followed by light filtration before bottling. Greg Sherwood MW: Super-tangy and vibrant with intensity, focus and mouthwatering tangerine and clementine acidity. Pristine purity, pithy granitic minerality and real focus to finish. Beverley Blanning MW: Buttery, lactic nose. Bright, full-flavoured orange and peaches and red apple. Juicy, filled with personality. Savoury, mineral finish. Roger Jones: Luscious pink nectarines with acacia honey, spices, vanilla cream, wild heather and herbs. Candied fruit carried by citrus curd leaving a creamy, lingering wine. The purity as the wine opens up is superb.
