Testalonga’s Craig Hawkins is placing increasing emphasis on its Bandits Kloof estate vineyards. From Grenache Blanc bushvines planted in 2018 this shows the exceptional promise of the sandstone and slate soils, providing an elevated freshness and a volcanic-mineral energy. Petrichor reduction gives way to honeysuckle, lemon peel, white peach and green fig, trailed in an undercurrent of smoke. Two years on the lees lends breadth and chew to the mid-palate, while a salty acidity cuts in structure. Unfiltered, unfined and bottled without added sulphur. Named for his dog, Daisy, who swims daily in the pond next to the vineyard.
