Unusual aromatics for a Chenin; Muscat-like with rose petals, apricot, peach and rooibos tea. So charmingly and authentically South African – the flavours teased out from 12 days on the skins. Something of a mind-bend as all the aromatic prettiness doesn’t translate onto the palate, which is more austere with lemon-apple fruit, an energetic acidity and bone-dry density. Grapes are sourced from a 1972 Paardeberg vineyard, with maturation in 3,000-litre foudres.
