From vines grown on shale on the Ceres Plateau, this wine was fermented in stainless steel before spending time in second-fill French oak on its lees, then 12 months in other second and third-fill French oak barrels. It has a stinky, farmyardy nose with some violet top-notes. This is really tight and clearly still very youthful, with some savoury tannins joined by headlining, moreish violet and cherry flavours. In the background, clove, wood and vanilla notes point at the use of oak, while the long finish features a refreshing crushed rock minerality. This needs time but has potential. 34 cases available at the CWG auction out of a total production of 50 cases.
