Brand new on the shelves, this offbeat sparkler is a South African 'pét nat' made from the Verdelho grape variety. Pétillant naturel is a method of making sparkling wine where the wine is bottled before it completes its first fermentation, and continues in the bottle, producing a natural effervescence from the remaining carbon dioxide, without the addition of sugar or sulphur. Wines are typically bottled under crown cap, as here, and are unfiltered, giving a slightly cloudy appearance. With a less aggressive fizz than a traditional sparkling wine, this would make a great food wine. It's dry, fresh and chalky in texture, with crunchy green fruit and fresh honeydew melon flavours. 6g/L residual sugar. Mix-six price: £15
