Made by a Somontano-based producer, this Garnacha comes from low-yielding vines planted between 1920 and 1970 on grey slate soils in Murero, a village to the southeast of Calatayud. Winemaker José Javier Echandi relies on wild yeasts to ferment the wine, which then spends 14 months ageing in 700L clay tinajas, resulting in a wonderful expression of both the grape variety and the freshness of the 2021 vintage. Beth Willard: A lovely jammy character, in the sense of plush fruit, with raspberry and a touch of stone fruit. Fruit-driven with immediate appeal. Valentin Radosav: Ripe blackberry and violet aromas. Lovely fruit extraction and expressivity. Refreshing acidity, dark chocolate, eucalyptus. Delivers on texture. David Williams: Pure berry fruit, rosehip, blood orange and a burgeoning spicy character. Refreshing, compelling, with a long, tangy, grapefruity finish.
