An impressive stand-alone wine blended by Raúl Perez for the English Wine Merchant, Justerini and Brooks. J&B are, of course, based on St James’s St in London and many of Raúl’s wine is sourced from vineyards in close proximity to the pilgrims route to Santiago de Compostela. A pleasing coincidence? Maybe, but this is a very pleasing wine, sourced from on specific vineyard (Cabanelas), its bright colour and beautifully concentrated damson fruit betraying generous wood ageing, a thesis substantiated by pepper and spice on the finish and an impressive grip, underlining ageing potential… the quintessence of Bierzo.
