Kripta Gran Reserva is the top cuvée, matured for eight years – under cork stopper, as is the norm for this producer. The 2016 vintage was warm and dry. Hand-harvested Macabeu, Parellada and Xarel·lo fruit comes from three organic vineyards in the Valls d’AnoiaFoix sub-zone, including Parellada grown at 650m elevation, all planted 50 or more years ago. The unusually shaped Kripta bottles are a nod to Roman amphorae. Christine Parkinson: Fine mousse, floral nose. The palate has vanilla, cloves and quince with a layer of salted plums. Lovely creamy texture, fine-knit and suave, leading to a very long finish. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Smoky, lightly diesel aromas. A vibrant entry to the palate and then a subtle mousse. There’s cocoa, coffee and greengage on the mid-palate. Carries its age lightly. Valentin Radosav: Vibrant fruit profile with gently creamy brioche. Lovely balance of ripe fruit, floral (tulips, camomile). Evolution adds complexity. Dried fruits and herbs: tarragon and sage.
