Mas Martinet is a family business founded by Montse Ovejero and Josep Lluís Pérez in 1981. Intended as a trubute to the traditions of Priorat pre-phylloxera, Els Escurçons comes from Garnacha vines planted on ferrous schist soils at 600m, where growers of past generations would have taken advantage of the cooler conditions. The wine is fermented in clay containers and aged in clay and demijohns, to bring individual character to the elegance of the fruit from the Priorat slopes. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Smoky aromas followed by a smoky palate. Very powerful fruit, with a distinct mineral edge and fine texture. Profound and very long. Christine Allen: Super complexity and concentration wrapped in silky tannins. Pencil shavings and granite, with ripe black cherry, blackberry, thyme, pepper and anise. Beth Willard: Sweet red berries, boysenberry and mulberry aromas. Underlying slatey freshness on the palate. A really big and powerful wine that is still fresh and lively.
