Crepuscular at the rim, firm and deep at the core; the product of a dry year, but one which was redeemed by an exceptionally fine October, which suited the 60-year-old vines in Rioja Alta's Abalos especially well. If anything, this vintage seems more evolved than the 1982, a reflection of the quality of the latter. The 1995 is a little more leathery and a little looser in composition; the volatile acidity a touch more obvious. The finish is strong, however; there's a rustic leathery charm at work, with firm grip after all this time and a satisfying finish.
