A traditional take on Rioja from Labastida, but with great character and energy, led by an alluring earthy nose of black olive, oregano, thyme and dried sage, very evocative of place. Tingling spicy rim of white and black pepper outlining the poached plum at the core. Fragrant nuances of of Assam and Rooibos tea. Acid verve supporting the wine throughout. Oak is still quite prominent; this will benefit from time in bottle.
