If the origins of the name are somewhat sketchy, the same cannot be said of the wine itself, a collaboration between Raúl Perez and his long-time friend, Rodrigo Méndez, himself a renowned Galician winemaker and focusing on the terroir of Val do Salnés, in Rías Baixas. The 60 to 80-year-old vineyards are located in Meaño, a stone’s throw away from the Atlantic, giving the wine a unique salty imprimatur But there is more... the wine is both made and aged in oak, something of a rarity, but, according to Raúl merely a reversion to tradition. There is something almost Chenin Blanc-esque in the texture; wax and lanolin, then orchard fruit, hints of bay and sage even, but rounded off with a firm chalky finish, not forgetting of course, the maritime salinity!
