El Pecado is made from centenarian grapes from the very small Capeliños vineyard in Ribeira Sacra. The vineyard is on a slope at some 350 to 400 meters above sea level and is planted with a Mencía field blend, including small percentages of Caino, Alicante Bouschet, Bastardo and Brancellao. The grapes for the 2018 were approximately 60% destemmed then fermented in an open 3,000-litre oak vat with indigenous yeasts and finally matured in used 228-litre oak barrels. Intense aromas of redcurrant, elderberry and woodsmoke tempt us to the elegance of the palate, marked by the purity of the fruit, the pinpoint poise of the tannins and the wonderful, almost ethereal finish. It would be a sin to overlook this one.
