The primary soils for this bottling of Mirto are ancient riverbed sediment with plenty of windy conditions. Rioja saw a rainy spring in 2016 and a sweltering early summer. Lots of fruit was dropped to focus the vines' efforts, resulting in concentration but plenty of freshness. This wonderfully bright and nearly Burgundian wine shows another side of Rioja entirely with aromas of pine bough, violets and forest floor. The purity of the fruit of Rioja has long been covered in toasted American oak. Here, neutral French oak lets this wine shine bright.  There is no racking, and extended lees contact gives this wine a fantastic texture. Flavours of savoury wild mint and textured blue fruits leave a lasting impression.
