Ruby-coloured with a garnet hue, the 2016 blend of Shiraz, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a savoury, gamy nose over an undertone of soy sauce, cassis, figs and black pepper spices. Salted preserved plum and pepper-spiced cherry liqueur on the palate, with salivating level of acidity. The wine was aged in 500 litre toasted French casks then 2000 litre German casks for a total of 36 months, which has softened out the fine-grained tannins. Salty and sour plums follow to the finish. The producer recommends decanting before serving. A delightful, morish red to drink now.
