The name refers to the ‘suitcase clones’ (in the case of this wine, Dijon 828 and 777), which were said to be initially taken from Grand Cru Burgundy vineyards then smuggled to America hidden in suitcases in the 1960s. Aged half-and-half in French and American oak, the Pinot Noir features an outburst of savoury, meaty scents, in addition to dried roses, smoked red cherry and bacon notes on the nose and the palate, dusted by crushed almonds, liquorice and cinnamon. The intense red berry fruits are supported by fine-grained tannins and a decent level of acidity (4.6g/l). Long and spicy on the finish.
