Thanks to the long hot summer of 2018, Kent producer Biddenden picked raisined Ortega grapes at the end of October to make a late-harvest wine with 122g/l of residual sugar, believed to be among the sweetest ever recorded in the UK. The wine was then left in American Oak Barrels for six weeks post-fermentation before bottling. Light-hued with citrus blossom, jasmine and candied peach, plus a touch of flint on the nose. Pure and clean with peach and dried apricot sweetness on the palate, decorated by bitter tangerine peel complexity, with a lovely line of acidity to balance.
